Adelaine Muth
Adelaine Muth’s work examines our relationships to the intangible familiar things that make up the human experience, such as the emotions and thoughts surrounding ideas like nostalgia, time, loss, and relief. Utilizing delicate materials such as wax, thread, and paper, she emphasizes how ephemeral and tenuous our relationship is to these intangible concepts. Adelaine received a BFA from University of Washington in 2017 and attended Pennsylvania State University in 2018 as a non-degree Post Bacc student in sculpture. Adelaine has shown in Museums and Galleries around the country including Woodstock Art Association & Museum, NY; Jacob Lawrence Gallery, WA, and The Living Gallery Outpost, NYC. She has attended residencies in South Bend, New Orleans and remotely in Kalamazoo. Attending the Birdsell Residency Project in South Bend, IN, she, along with 9 other artists, created large installations in the old Ziker Dry Cleaning facility, now known as Vested Interest, utilizing the building's old structures, influenced by the history of the building and city. At Kalamazoo Institute of Art in 2020, she helped pioneer their remote residency program. Currently Adelaine works as the Studio Manager for Artist Rebecca Hutchinson and as a Fabricator for the Furniture Company Swell studio. She lives and works in New York State.
I met Amanda in 2016 at University of Washington while I was getting my BFA and she was the visiting artist. Although I didn’t have the pleasure of taking a class with her, she brought incredible thoughtfulness and insight to all of our discussions of my work. We stayed connected through the years and she always showed me support in my work and my studio practice. In 2023, I began thinking more seriously about getting an MFA and I reached out to her hoping to have a discussion and hear her insights about going back to school. She told me she had mentored several people though the Grad School application and decision process and I happily accepted her help and guidance. Amanda was extremely patient and kind with me-always meeting me at whatever level I was at in our conversations and always ready to be my cheerleader and confidence booster as I needed it. She kept me on track and helped with focusing my goals and ideas during this transitional time. I feel extremely grateful for her generosity and kindness. An amazing artist and human through and through.
